Question: What is Oxygen?
Answer: Oxygen is a colorless, tasteless, non-combustible gas. It is the most important element on earth. The atmosphere comprises 21% oxygen, 78% nitrogen and 1% traces of other gases, at sea level, and in some locations, the oxygen level is as low as 9%!
Question: What is an oxygen bar?
Answer: An oxygen bar dispenses purified oxygen that can be mixed with aromatherapy and is inhaled.
Question: Is this medical oxygen?
Answer: No. This is recreational oxygen – less than 100%. Medical oxygen is 100% pure oxygen; you must have a license to dispense it and a prescription to receive it.
Question: Why do I need O2Zone's Oxygen?
Answer: We all need oxygen to convert fuel - the carbohydrates, fats, and proteins that we eat into energy to fuel the body. The conversion of body fuels is similar to the process of combustion; fuel and oxygen is consumed, while heat and energy is generated. This is called 'metabolism'. Furthermore, our bodies are only getting HALF of the oxygen they were designed to absorb. Your body cannot live for more than 3 minutes without oxygen.
Question: Is extra oxygen safe for everyone to use?
Answer: Generally yes, however Oxygen Therapy is intended for use only by healthy individuals. If you have a medical condition or are pregnant we recommend you consult your doctor before use.
Question: How does the extra oxygen work?
Answer:
In 2 ways:
1. Oxygen saturation level in the blood is increased from 97% to 99%. (Dr Andrew Scholey, 2001, Director Human Cognitive Performance Unit, University of Northumbria)
2. Partial pressure of oxygen in the blood is increased which drives more oxygen into the muscle tissues. (Professor Daniel Sessler, University of California, 2000)
The benefits of oxygen are many and are listed within O2zone’s website.
Question: How many minutes should I do per session?
Answer: We recommend a limit of 3 x 30 minute sessions in a 24 hour period. Using more will not gain you extra benefits. Do not use continuous hours of extra oxygen.
Question: What benefits will I notice and how long will they last?
Answer: Initially you will be aware of a refreshing feeling of cool filtered extra oxygen flow, leading to a feeling of clear headedness. The extra oxygen should also give you a natural boost, and revitalize your body and mind. The effects will last during your session and afterwards, for a period of a few minutes to a few hours, depending on the length of time of your session and depending on you as an individual.
Question: What science is there to backup the benefits of extra oxygen intake?
Answer: The benefits of extra oxygen are regularly researched throughout the world and have long been proven to enhance physical and mental performance in healthy adults. Here are some of the findings from recent published studies:
• A higher concentration of oxygen in the inspired air significantly enhances memory formation, cognitive performance, and reaction time. (Scholey et al., 1999, Physiology and Behavior)
• A higher concentration of oxygen in the inspired air will significantly enhance recovery, enhance performance and reduce lactate accumulation during intermittent activities. (Kleiner and Snyder, 1995, Journal of Strength and Conditioning)
• A higher concentration of oxygen in the inspired air is known to significantly improve endurance performance. (Plet et al., 1992, International Journal of Applied Physiology)
• Extra oxygen is beneficial, where as less oxygen is detrimental for maintaining maximum performance. (Cabrie et al. 1991, Journal of Sports Medicine and Applied Physical Fitness)
Oxygen also gives life to new cells and aids in detoxification. Your body cannot continue to grow healthy cells in a toxic state.
